The first edition of the Bronisław Huberman Violin Festival was held at the Częstochowa Philharmonic in June 1997. It commemorated the 50th anniversary of the death of this great Polish musician, one of the most outstanding and famous violinists of the 20th century.

Bronisław Huberman, born in Częstochowa in 1882, was famous as a child prodigy and already in his early youth, he experienced great successes, for example, he played in the presence of Johannes Brahms who lavished praise on him and forecasted a great career. The words of the eminent composer were realized/came true as Huberman achieved fame and the position of one of the most eminent violinists of the century even before he was 20. His extraordinary technique and musical talent (musicality?) allowed him to reach a permanent place in the history of the world violin music.

At the same time, Bronisław Huberman was a great and broad-minded humanist. His idea of a united Europe, propagated by the artist as early as in the 1920s, makes it a precursor of the idea of the European integration based upon respect for the cultural and ethnic individuality of each nation.

As a result of his efforts, the Great Symphony Orchestra in Tel Aviv was created, now known as the Philharmonic of Israel, named after him, in which the opening concert in December 1936 was conducted by Arturo Toscanini who manifested his anti-fascist attitude in this way.
After the war, Huberman returned to Europe and settled in Switzerland where he spent the last period of his life. It is worth mentioning that when the musical world celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great violinist in 1982, in Poland, where he was born and raised and about which he had always spoke of as of his motherland, this event passed without a sound.

Therefore, the Częstochowa Philharmonic celebrated the 50th anniversary of the death of Bronisław Huberman in a way adequate for an artist and humanist of so great a stature - who had not only identified himself with Poland for his whole life but also glorified its name on numerous concert stages worldwide – by creating the Violin Festival named after him.

The festival became at the same time a continuation of two prestigious festivals of Częstochowa: the Grażyna Bacewicz Violin Festival and Jeunesses Musicales.
The Częstochowa Philharmonic organizes the Huberman Festival in an every-second-year cycle. Leszek F.Hadrian is the Director of the Festival, Jerzy Swoboda – the  Artistic Director. The event in its formula comprises of both master recitals, chamber music concerts and symphonic concerts. The Festival enables the presentation of great works of art performed by recognized artists, and promotes as well young talented musicians who present themselves in the concert “Great Talents, Great Expectations”.

During the first edition of the Festival, a commemorative plaque dedicated to Bronisław Huberman was mounted at the Philharmonic main entrance. In the editions of the Festival so far, many world-famous soloists have appeared, for example: Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Andrzej Bauer, Kaja Danczowska, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Piotr Pławner and other famous and respected groups: Sinfonia Varsovia, Capella Cracoviensis, Gdańsk Contrabass Quartet , Wilanów Quartet, Polish Radio Amadeus Chamber Orchestra managed by Agnieszka Duczmal, Silesia Quartet , “Virtuosos of Lwów” Chamber Music Orchestra conducted by Serhiya Burko and “The Spirit of Gambo” Duet. The development of Huberman’s idea and interest in his life and works lead to the publication of a biographical book written by Piotr Szalsza entitled: “Bronisław Huberman, Passions and Desires of a Forgotten Genius” in 2003.
